@Squarerig I'm pretty sure a rotary engine of any sort is simply one where the piston rotates as well as the output shaft - so, in a rotary steam engine the piston rotates. There's quite a good explanation of this specific engine at animatedengines(dot)com
I read a request for information on how the steam ports are arranged, though it is 12 months old. I just sketched it out and it is not too difficult to do, just hard to explain here.
looks like this configuration avoids some of the losses associated with reciprocating forces on the pistons, therefore should have a better power to weight ratio! perhaps with a big enough condensor a viable aeronautical candidate?
What could you power with this thing? Just curious?

I once used some gear-type car oil pump as a steam engine !
