  • What could you power with this thing? Just curious?

  • Scarab.Thank you for the advice.I am familiar with the ICE of early aeroplanes but had no idea that this principle was also applied to steam machinery. It must be very difficult to make steam-tight joint, however.

  • @Squarerig I'm pretty sure a rotary engine of any sort is simply one where the piston rotates as well as the output shaft - so, in a rotary steam engine the piston rotates. There's quite a good explanation of this specific engine at animatedengines(dot)com

  • I read a request for information on how the steam ports are arranged, though it is 12 months old. I just sketched it out and it is not too difficult to do, just hard to explain here.

  • I still don't know what a rotary steam engine is!Who can help me out?

  • looks like this configuration avoids some of the losses associated with reciprocating forces on the pistons, therefore should have a better power to weight ratio! perhaps with a big enough condensor a viable aeronautical candidate?

  • That is sooo cool.

  • sweet engine.

  • I once used some gear-type car oil pump as a steam engine !

  • HINT: Think of the oil passages in the crank shaft of the engine in your car.
