The internet and 3G/4G networks and beyond have connected us together so that literally we can be in touch with anyone at virtually any time of day or night. Technology has shrunk our world... but has it also shrunk our judgement? We no longer have to interact with people face to face when we share words or thoughts with one another and therefore we no longer have to see the reactions, hear the tone of our conversation partners voice or can pick up on the subtleties of dialect that allow us to discern the emotion or thought behind it.
The access to one another has brought around a new medium for which primarily teenagers, although it's not at all limited to them, to haze, flame, harass or in other words bully one another. This can happen through direct attacks, where the bully will directly (although quite possibly anonymously) harass the individual or through what has become known as "proxy bullying"
in which a group of online users will attack an individual through a forum type medium. The problem becomes the bully no longer see's the impact of their action and thus makes it too easy for them to say words that are hurtful and wouldn't otherwise be said in person. This song, to the tune of Ke$ha's Tik Tok, although meant to be taken humorously addresses this issue of Cyber Bullying and how the people doing the bullying really do not feel the affect of their actions. Ultimately what we all need to come back to is the Golden Rules we were taught in Kindergarten "Always treat others with respect" and "Treat others the way you wish to be treated" whether that be on Twitter, Facebook, or other Social Media.
