By accepting the gift of God and believe in Jesus as the Son of God, then you must accept to be rehabilitated as a criminal would do if he/she wanted to be pardoned from the whole law of God coming down on you, in which th result is death in Hell.

Just like in earthly criminal justice system criminals who accept going through rehab are pardoned from the law that would otherwise execute them.
