Semi-deadbeat escapement in action. The mainspring was run down approximately 7 days for this movie. This movement belongs to an Ithaca grandfather clock with a Gilbert movement. It was made around 1898 - 1917.

  • It is semi-deadbeat because there is a very slight amount of recoil when the clock is fully wound and the pendulum is taking a larger swing. (although it is very close to being true deadbeat.)

  • Beautiful video. Why is it called a semi-deadbeat instead of a full deadbeat?
