The main types of movement used in the higher quailty replicas are:

21 Jewels automatic movement (chinese movement)
Nice movement, but runs no longer than two or three years.

ETA replica movement (chinese movement)
This movement is replicated from an ETA movement. The movement is so well replicated, it is actually a pretty good movement. If serviced, the movement can last for ~5 years.

Rolex cal. 3135 replica movement
This movement is also known as A3135, it means Asian 3135. It is a chinese copy of the rolex caliber 3135 movement. It is actually a bad movement, the watch is always overpriced with this movement. But it's just a chinese movement that is based on the ETA replica, and then modified to look like the rolex caliber 3135 movement. The ETA replica is good movement, but to make it look like the rolex movement they changed some parts and made the movement worse.

ETA 2836-2 Movement (The genuine swiss ETA movement)
This movement is called "swiss" because it is made by the swiss company SWATCH. But its mainly produced in Thailand. However, this is the movement that you really want if you are looking for a high quality replica. This movement can run for over ten years if well serviced.

Some more tips to buying a replica watch:

WATERPROOF
Replica watches are never waterproof unless there is a stated rapport that shows a waterproofing test. The watches are always made waterresistant by the factories, with greased sealings againt dust and water. However the watches are never tested for waterproofing and it turns out some watches have very small leaks. So if you pay for a waterproof watch, always ask for a test rapport. Because the factory doesen't test them, the dealer must have tested them if he claims waterproof.

Replica watches are known for the quality/price aspect. Nowadays replica watches are really high quality, can you find a +- 350 dollar watch with an ETA 2836-2 movement? And with 316F hardened stainless steel?

Don't think so! And guess what, the current best replica of the Rolex Submariner does use these parts, along with sapphire glass and more. You just have to admit replica watches these days can be very nice, and accept that for some people these are collectable items and part of a hobby.

a rolex is a status symbol to show that you have succeeded in the road to success and the submariner is the ultimate showcase award to reflect that achievement. i doubt if others can spot a fake to a real one on someone's wrist even if he handed to him to inspect unless this person qualifies to identify fake from the genuine article.

@MrArd92 Thanks, the quality part is all I need to be sold on. You are right about the brand though, there are many watches out there that haven't been around as long as Tag or Tissot or Rolex but their quality are just as good(RW or Ernst Benz). I buy a watch for life as well, so resale isn't important to me as well. I like the styling of RW so I may go pick one up in the next little while. I am a stronger believer in sometimes paying for a name/extras isn't worth the price hike. I.E Tag vs RW

@Zee06 The quality is up there with tag heuer and use many of the same movements. Their resale is lower but when i buy a watch i buy it for life so resale value is worthless to me. Its not an old company so thats why they tend to be a little cheaper. One thing i have noticed is that if its a brand that isnt old or expensive (rolex +) many people look at it as cheap or not a real watch brand. Also brands that feature mostly or exclusively in house movements are considered real watch makers.

@Zee06 Tag heuer is also a paying a large amount for brand name but i have a particular style i like and tag heuer seems to hit that, and few ramond weils and a few victoronicx watches fit my tastes. Most cheap fake rolex's (at least the ones i have purchased) dont last very long due to the delicate parts and the cheap parts that are used. You can usually tell if someone is wearing a real rolex not just by the watch but also who the person is (a janitor probably wont have a real one).

@Zee06 With any expensive watch you are paying for the brand, very little of it goes into the watch for parts and labor. Rolex can charge the prices they do because they have built up a reputation. There are other brands that have just as good of watches (quality and hand made) that are much cheaper but dont have the brand name. I have 2 tag heuers (aquaracer and carrera) that put together retail price couldnt put me into an entry level rolex.

I buy fake Rolexes from places that I travel too. I never wear them. But it's just nice to come back from say the Bahamas or Italy and say. "Hey I bought a Rolex in(insert country here) from a guy off the train)" Some people collect buy post cards or t shirts I buy fake Rolxes. At least it's something that I can use if say, my real Tissot or Bulova break, or I want to dress up as James Bond for the night in my tux...Submariner and all :)

Actually many people do pay attention to your wrists. I work in an business where people do pay attention to the watch that you wear. To be honest Rolex's aren't worth the price. You are mainly paying for the brand. FYI, a USED Submariner runs around 6 to 10 grand! I have bought 3 very good quality Swiss made automatics for a third the cost and the craftsmans ship is just as good as a Rolex. The fit and finish might be a little better on a Rolex but not really enough to notice.
