A New York state DOT crane nearly toppled over while handling cement barricades Wednesday morning along the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 at mile marker 17. Traffic was halted for about 20 minutes as work crews used another piece of heavy equipment to right the crane. No injuries were reported and no damage done to the tipsy crane.

  • Read the Load Charts, and understand them before you attempt a lift. Always work within the chart. You will get more done following my advice, and no one will get hurt.

  • Reasons like this are why liability insurance for cranes is expensive and why osha standards get stricter.

  • how about extend the f'ing outriggers???

  • Load charts are a part of it.

In this case it was on solid ground, but at other times this is not the case, and the solution might be pads.

NCCCO cert is one way to get things right but I see an era where, like the CDL, the states will get involved in conjunction with the feds.
