Made by Tanaka Hisashige over 150 years ago, mojikaki ningyo draws kotobuki, the Japanese character for "Long Life and Happiness". This karako can draw 3 other kanji characters as well.

  • wch76, Are you Chinese? No, "karakuri" and "karako" are the different words. "Karakuri"(noun) is from "Karakuru", a Japanese verb. It is sure that there are many mechanical dolls like this all over the world, and this is the original work of Tanaka Hisashige in Edo period.

  • tis mechanism was actually introduced from china more than 1300 yrs ago hence the name 'karako' which means 'chinese child'.

  • the person who had made this doll became the initiator of Toshiba.

  • That was amazing!
