Torrential rain caused a dam to burst early Friday, sending a wall of water crashing into a crowded neighborhood just outside Indonesia's capital. The flood killed at least 50 people. (March 27)

The "Situ Gintung" dam in Indonesia burst on March 27, 2009. At least 98 people died as a result. It was an earthen dam, which was built by the Dutch in 1933 to provide irrigation water for rice paddies (which were subsequently replaced by housing). The dam had leaked in November 2008. It's hard for me to see something like this, and I can only bare witness on how helpless I am. I want to do something to help them in some way, but I know for a fact that I cant do anything about it. I guess life is meant to be this way, and if they weren't then the dam wouldnt have burst. This world sucks! "Over the rainbow its a wonderful world," I hope everyone that has passed are in a better place.
