Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2009

The Cyprus Sunshine Cup is considered every year the beginning of the European mountain biking season. While Europe is still covered in snow, the best European athletes head to Cyprus to prepare in sunny conditions and temperatures in the 20's.

The 2009 edition of the established series consisted of 4 races:
22/2 Tochni-Kalavasos, XCP
27/2-1/3 Afxentia, Machairas. XCS
8/3 Amathous, Ayios Tychonas, XCO
15/3 Oroklini, XCO

The Overall was won in men's category by upcoming Greek rider Periklis Elias taking advantage of Emil Lingdrens absence in the last stage and in women's race by the young Swedish rider Alexandra Engen who went on to score World and European Championships podiums in the 2009 season.
