I come from a place where there are people with French accents who don't speak French and people with Scots accents who don't speak Gaelic. They've kept the accents without the language, which I find fascinating. I like your accent, Peter. It's not one of those "cut-glass" accents that makes a person want to sit up straight and mind their manners.

Hi Peter, I think what you had to say about languages and dialects was interesting. As you suggested,most of our references not long ago were from our immediate neighbours. Now, with the media the way it is we get a sampling of many dialects. I guess we will have to wait and see which one ends up winning out

Oh so true. I love all things British so I am always reading and seeking out new things. I watch a lot of BBC America and I find myself-without even realizing it-saying a lot of phrases that would be considered from across the pond.
