You will find a kind of roots of street music here. The roots of Biwa(Japanese lute) and Shakuhachi(Japanese bamboo flute) are said to be played originally on the street in front of the house to pray by Buddhist priest. The duo of Yukihiro Goto(biwa) and Akihito Obama(shakuhachi) seek for the spirit of the original meaning of their musical instrumens and have held many lives in theater, shrine, temple, bar, etc in this five years. In January 2008, they played at Asia Society in NY and at Japan-America theater in LA and were highly praised. Although these two musical instruments have a kind of same origin of the purpose to play, they have seldom been played with so far. Yukihiro Goto and Akihito Obama have tried to revive the original spirit and released CD「michinone(sound of street)」in January 2009. This video is from the live held at café MURIWUI in Tokyo, January 31, 2009. The title of this tune is 開-KAI, which means opening.
