This documentary recounts the efforts of the Catholic Church in Brazil to counter the ever-widening effects of drug addiction. The program, through interviews of former drug addicts shows the damage that this social problem caused in their lives and the struggle it took to get out. The program then moves to consider the pastoral work of Fr. Hans Stapel, German missionary priest, who established the first drug rehabilitation farm ten years ago simply using the techniques of hard work and prayer. The project is called the Fazenda of Hope. The documentary follows the young Brazilians as they go through rehabilitation and through interviews, reveals the struggle to over-come the addiction. Brazilian government officials are also interviewed who affirm the success of this project in Brazil. Today the project is so successful that Fr Hans Stapel has eleven farms in Brazil and has been asked by the German government to establish similar farms in Germany. The documen-tary then follows Fr. Hans as he returns to Germany to open the first Fazenda near Berlin.
