DRESSAGE: Carol Lavell -- The Gift of Gifted

No collection of 1990s American superhorses would be complete without a tribute to the great GREAT Hanoverian dressage champion: Gifted!

The Olympics, the World Championships, the World Equestrian Games, the Volvo World Cup, the North American Dressage Championships.... this 17.3hh leviathan not only competed, but MEDALED, in each and every one of them!

His unique and prosperous partnership with Carol Lavell saw them win the 1991 US Dressage Federation's Horse of the Year award, and later a 1997 induction to the USDF Hall of Fame, upon his untimely death.

Here in this clip though, he can be seen during happier times, performing a grand prix exhibition at the 1995 Washington International Horse Show. RIP.

Yeah, he had to be put down at age 17 in 1997. So sad.

I saw Gifted at the National Horse Show at Madison Square Garden in NYC. He was so beautiful he made tears fill my eyes. Breyer made a model of him too.
