Thanks for the tips. Cold calling blows generally. You have some of the best mentors. I have learned from them as well

Yes, the guys he mentions like Dan Kennedy, Brad Fallon a Andy Jenkins are classic direct marketing experts and I recommend you learn from them also.
However if you want to (or HAVE to cold call by instruction of your management) then you need to have a low-pressure, low-energy, rejection free way of doing it.
Oh and don't think for a minute that "inbound" calls aren't a cold call, they are.. becuase the person on the end of the line is still an "unknown" it's just they're calling you!

98% of that was reasons why it's good to have good marketing. The only useful tip I picked out was to send potential clients free gifts. Someone needs to read 'Fobing off an advert as a public service for dummies'.

Thanks for this video, I enjoyed listening.
I just started a direct-marketing job at a b2b trade magazine publisher last month. I have to say I'm been fairly miserable with the task of cold calling prospects on a daily basis -- Simply picking up the phone and calling is the hardest part, nevermind not knowing what to say.
I think I'm going to quit as soon as the economy loosens up. I think I'd be good for sales, however cold-calling is proving to be a painful process.
I clicked on a video called Cold Calling and Direct Sales tips thinking I would get tips about Cold Calling. Instead I watched a video telling me you should market better because Cold Calling is terrible.

Cold Calling is terrible and great. It's terrible because it causes a HUGE attrition, but great because it's simply a GREAT way to get business. If you're willing and able and enjoy cold-calling, you'll never starve. However, if you're like the majority of sales people I've hired then it's a terrible way to go. Sales people (or companies) that don't enjoy or support cold-calling better have a GREAT marketing system in place.
