Here's the original theme of Lavender Town (called Shion Town in Japan) from the initial release of Pokémon Red and Green, which for people interested in ROM jargon, is the v1.0 release of the games.

The fundamental difference between this theme and the revised one present in updated copies (v1.1) and localized releases of the Generation I games is that there are parts of the music where there is a higher pitch, which causes disturbances on the human senses and strain on speakers.

This theme has been used as proof to confirm the rumors of children who commited suicide from listening to it. Rest assured, however, that none of these claims are true. It is nothing more than an urban legend meant to scare children who play Pokémon games. Moreover, it causes a placebo effect on people of any age if they believe what the stories transmit, leading them to apparently suffer from consequences upon listening to this theme. As such, any content whose source relates to such tales is false and this track does not harm you differently from any other 8-bit music out there.

I recorded the audio to a WAV file directly in VisualBoyAdvance-Merge (VBA-M) build 945 while playing a v1.0 ROM of the Japanese Pokémon Red.

This video was not created to promote or support creepypasta. Its purpose is to provide people with the original version of the theme, which is real. What did not occur at all were the aforementioned suicides.
