Joey Younger inspires people with his positive attitude. Some may see deafness as an employment barrier but optimistic Joey has used this challenge to become one of the most popular employees in Goodwill's work center. Overcoming adversity has been a constant mission of Joey's since he was born deaf and had a tracheotomy performed at a tender three days old. Throughout demanding medical obstacles, tests and diagnoses Joey has portrayed a positive attitude and an abundance of patience.
Joey's goal last year was to increase communication through his new Dynavox machine which gives him an audible voice. He quickly implemented his trademark tenacity as he began teaching fellow co-workers sign language. At home he dotes on his ten-month-old niece, enthusiastically teaching her sign language and is always willing to help Princess Mom, his special nickname for his mother. Despite living in a world without sound, Joey continues to amaze those around him as he earns money collating printed materials for local companies to support his hobbies of video games, books and Special Olympics.
