It just annoys me that you only really see black and white dogs in the ring! What about the rest of the colours? And they all have the blaze on their face in the same place collies come with lots of different markings! I think they should all be allowed in the ring! I would only ever do agility and other dog sports with my collie and not put it in the ring anyway so would be happy with a working collie. :)

I'll take my working BC over any show dog BC. You really can tell the difference in what was bred out and bred in.... don't like it...

@jfkjrlover Is that what your parents did????? Well they failed in the brains part, and since I don't know what you look like??????? Working dogs in the US are not all ugly my dear!!!!!

The split between working and conformation lines is overall a GOOD thing, as I don't want mud in my water (the working lines). Unfortunatelly nowdays there are less people intrested in working dogs, which in my opinion is the reason behind the decrement of working dogs' breeding and, afterwards, working ability...

@caseysuzi the same applies on every working breed - huskies, setters, gsd. Healthy working bloodlines have been maintained. A working bc is not suitable for the average pet owner, who would love a clever dog with less amound of energy. (Inbreeding is always a headache, when you chase "improvement", either on working ability or conformation)

The trick is to have a blended pedigree of stock dog and show dog.. I have been showing bcs and i have an awesome solid blue and white bc. He's doing great in the breed ring and as soon as he's old enough he will be working in herding and in the obedience ring. It all boils down to a responsible breeder on retaining the image and mind of future dogs.

@caseysuzi I disagree. I don't think a dog has to be ugly, like the working border collies in the U.S., to be able to do its job. Breed for beauty and brains, I say.

I agree with the other thoughts about conformation border collies. I am so disappointed with the obvious split between the working dogs and breed dogs. I have been showing Border Collies in agiity for 18 years and I can tell you most of the time the conformation BC's with their straight ends and straight rears can't hold a candle to my working dogs when it comes to speed and turning ability. So yes already we are seeing degrees of losing the working ability of the Border Collie.
I don't agree with a "breed standard" for Border Collies. They are bred for their brains NOT their looks! If we start breeding for appearance we run the risk of inbreeding.
