Wind Storm, Mojave Desert, Lancaster Palmdale Ca. Tumble Weeds

During a wind storm on 13 April 2005 I took this video of my ranch and horse facilities. This shows what can happen when an absentee land owner (in this case the City of Lancaster) fails to maintain their property. The land the tumble weeds came off of had been farm land but through some trades the city acquired the land. They then stopped the farming operations which had maintained the land and you can see the results here. The farm land is now owned by a developer, and is located on West Ave "H" between 80th and 90th streets West.
Last year after sending the current Land owner notice to clear the land, Los Angeles County sent in a crew who mowed the weeds down to prevent this. My understand is that they then put a tax lean on the land to recover costs.

I kept wishing you would hold the camera still so that we could see the movement of the tumebleweeds out in the fields. Since they were doing the moving, the camera doesn't have too. Best if it doesn't. You must watch a lot of music videos where it's apparently against the law to ever stop moving the camera. :-)) Anyway, your video was fun & freaky to watch. I can't watch moving tumbleweed without it taking me back to a 1963 episode of The Outer Limits. Scary as all get out for a young kid!

Thanks for the comment. I was having real trouble just standing the wind was blowing so hard. And I originally taped this to show to the City of Lancaster. They owned the land that the tumbleweeds were coming off of. They had failed to maintain it in accordance with their own laws and that of LA County. But it was so interesting to watch it was one of the first videos I posted.
