Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers (NEW EXPANSION)
System: Xbox 360
Player: KorthmanEX
Date: 10/21/2009
Claws of Vengeance vs Cries of Rage (Sarkhan Vol)
So last night, like many of us that are Magic: The Gathering fans, a new expansion was added to the downloads section of Magic: The Gathering for the XBLA.

The stuff I care about with the new expansion:
Additional Cards for all decks
New really short campaign Duel of the Dragon
3 unlockable decks (1 being Relics of Doom from the original game)
New Enemy Nicol Bolas (my favorite legend card from the actual card game)

I decided that I would start right off with the campaign with, in my opinion, the worst deck in Magic: The Gathering, Claws of Vengeance. I will not lie. It took me more times than I care to admit to take the new Cries of Rage deck.

Cries of Rage is very different from Sarkhan Vols previous Dragon deck. It has a couple crazy good buff cards right out the gate. The buff cards are these creatures that give permanent +1 +1 counters on all warrior cards, which Cries of Rage is full of. You have to basically hope that he gets low land and that you can get a bunch of ok/decent creates.
For me I got lucky with a case of no creatures but way too much land.

Thank you Blaze for my semi-cheap win!

  • Is duel the dragon using Magic 2010-wording and ruling?

  • I am not sure. Give me an example and ill tell ya :)

  • Hey are you gonna make a video on how to beat the new challenges?

  • I have not even tried the challenges yet. If they are single player, ill post them either today or tomorrow.

  • Btw, can one only play 1 vs.1 in this xbox 360 game?

  • It gives you 1 life for every green spell cast. It is an artifact.

    Campaign has 2 modes:

    1 vs 1

    and 2 headed giant (2p vs 2p).

Multiplayer you can do 1 on 1 on up to 4 players against each other. Watch out for the 3 and 4 player games. They are the most rewarding in terms of fun, but you find a lot of people gang up and even some "teams" basically. Makes no sense since only the last person remains wins...but. It is a terrific game. It really is.

  • where do u play this?, it looks cool!=)

  • Hahaha, you're so lucky you topdecked that land. Good game though, even though you ran out of hand power really early:)

  • How much did it cost?

  • @Uejji: At 0:40 it clearly says "... comes into play" which is pre M10 wording

  • They have not implemented custom decks into this game. Hopefully this comes as with a future update. Right now as you win matches with a deck you unlock more cards for that deck (up to a dozen or so extra per deck, but depends on the deck), and you get to cycle any of the new cards in and out of the deck in your deck manager.

It's not great but it works I suppose. I still love the game.

  • This game is completely M10 based. This includes card art, wording, flavor text and rules.

  • can i create my own deck?

  • lol a bunch of runescape crap for related vids.

  • The M10 Wurm's Tooth reads "Whenever a player casts a green spell, you may gain 1 life"
