Roy Stewart shows why The Olo surfboard was reserved for royalty: fast, down the line, and making super long rides without much effort for the rider, making it look too easy, This is what gets me going ! . . Footage from Tay St Mount Maunganui, before the break was destroyed by the failed Mount Reef project .Music by Saafi Brothers

  • half the board is not in the water anyway, cut 7 feet and you will be good.

  • @wordup714 That'a a common fallacy right there, the nose works even when out of the water.

  • @RoyStewart Chop 7 feet off and the board would be noseriding. Can't have that!

  • @Mrbiggerthanlife chop your nose off and you'd be noseless, can't have that !

  • Youlosez the colur is actually 'Flamingo' . . . more of a pink :)

  • Roy, I lived @ the mount (ocean front) for 2 years, this was the reason i started logging it, I had a handful of swells over 4 ft in this time, I now get that on the west coast nearly week!!! oh when are u at manu bay next, would love to see u there as u'd make that ledge section easy, respect the olo :)

  • Cheers mate, yeah I spent three years living on the point and it's true that it is more consistent, however the Mount and East Coast generally goes through long cycles 2000/2001 it pumped almost constantly, then it went slack for a couple of years. I reckon if you check the stats you will find that there were plenty of good sized swells while you were there though, often because they are breaking way out they get ignored. ;)

  • fuckin tank man. looks like fun.

    good ridin

  • chee hee! the red bullet

  • If you look at the statistics you will realise that the Mount Maunganui coast gets a lot of swell including good quality long period swells and swells over 20 feet quite regularly. Your comment is based on a popular myth which was started by those who were unable to ride the challenging waves at the Mount on their shortboards. The waves are often shifting with very fast sections, hollow sections and flatter sections all in the same wave. . . shortboards cannot cope well with such conditions.
