Maya is awesome for creating real 3D text to composite on top of footage. A flow path will enable the text or objects to revolve around a scene and create awesome animated titles and motion graphics. In this simple tutorial by Stuart Christensen you will learn how to quickly set up and adjust a flow path for your titles and adjust the lattice points for special effects. Imagination is the key to using flow paths! Keep that in mind!

  • Very great tutorial. Thanks a lot.

On a side note: I think you should show the settings you used for Flow Path Object because if we use the default settings the Lattice and Base created does not have enough segments/divisions for the text to flow around. I changed the settings to 20/2/2 divisions and changed the Flow to Curve instead of Object and so far so good. Once again thanks!

  • @DanielG0922 I'm glad you like it! As well, I have created two other tutorials about the flow path and it's peculiar issues which may cover that problem and a few others. The flow path for text use is sort of strange so I think by the third one I found some workarounds and such. Check out my actual channel page and look at the uploads to find more about flow paths. Thanks for watching. Stu

  • Hola muy bueno ya me subscribi a tu canal

pero tengo un problema con el texto 3d

maya me tira el siguiente error

Hi very good since I subscribed to your channel

but I have a problem with 3D text

Maya throws me the following error

Error: bevelPlus1 (Bevel Plus): Group 7 curve 2 is not inside the previous curve. Group these curves appropriately in Adobe (R) Illustrator (R) //

  • @cristiansky Hola! The best thing to do is check out my tutorial on working with text and Illustrator files. Basically it's a warning telling you that in order to bevel the curves you must select the outside curve first and then the inside curve. For example, the letter O will have an outside curve and an inside curve. Select the outer first and then shift click the inner and then do the bevel process. Or is it the other way around? You get the idea. Best of luck! Stu

  • Hi thanks for this film its really useful and very easy to follow. Outline panel!? Hallelujah! I been working around this for ages. That makes life so much easier:D My question - did you ever find out how to iron out the glitch in the flow of the text when it returns to the start of the path? I have encountered the same problem and want it to just be smoothly moving all the way roun.....

  • @2tombarnett Unfortunately, I have not resolved this "BUG" in the flow path. But I'm still trying to resolve the issue...it's the same problem in Maya 2011 (See my new Maya 2011 flowpath tutorial). I guess this could lead to a workaround type tutorial in the future. Make sure to subscribe so that in the future, if I update this tutorial, you'll get the answer as well. Thanks for the kind words and watching. STU

  • This is a great tutorial thanks so much for this and all the others you have made. I would like to ask if you know how to have text on a horizontal rotating Archimedes spiral? I know how to make the spiral and rotate it but getting the text to follow the path seems to be troublesome. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Hi, thanks for this tutorial, it helped me a lot. I was wondering what do i have to do to loop the animation of the text around the path, i tried a couple of things but didnt went well. Could you help me with that?, thanks in advance...
