Hang Onto Yourself (inspired by 1971 demo - Bowie w/Gene Vincent)

This song ROCKS!! The original demo can be heard,sped-up,on BOWIEZONE. They say Gene Vincent is playing on it. It doesn't sound too good but even when slowed down to correct pitch it ROCKS!!! My version is based on that demo, with added parts of the final 'Ziggy' version & some of the lyrics have been altered using 'cut-up' Ziggy (& Bolan) references (Bowie sings "The bitter comes out better on a Bolan guitar" on the live 1978 'STAGE' version,I think... I've heard it somewhere from that period)
Well, I thought I could get my bolan-mad mate, Harry, interested enough to help me on this as Bowie sings Get It On in the chorus. But, I eventually had to do it all myself. Yes, I HAD TO do it!! It ROCKS!! My fave bit is at the end when I improvise the lead guitar; The reason being, I had no idea what I was doing & now I can only wonder why my fingers played part of Mick Ronson's guitar solo from Black Country Rock (MWStW) - It wasn't on my mind & I'd never played it before...

I agree. Well, it's hard to compete with Bowie. Somebody requested me to try Wild Is The Wind!! I had doubts as Bowie's version is so good. But, it's here on YouTube if you wanna listen to that attempt...

Great song, I love the version from Ziggy. I dont have an electric yet but id love to learn to play this when I do :)
