Edward Woodward, in the role of spy-come-assassin David Callan, as he drunkenly laments the death of a colleague. Really old British tv show, called Callan, with dreadful production quality. But heh, these people could act.

From Series 4, Episode 5, entitled "If he can, so could I".

  • Edward Woodward was an astonishing actor. Because sometimes, you couldn't tell he was acting, if that makes sense. Utterly convincing in his performances.

  • @sharona1981 A good puppeteer never shows the strings, if that makes sense.

  • Who plays Lonely?

  • Russel Hunter.

  • Brilliant TV series and incredible acting and scripting. You call this old, I'd call it classic and sadly missed compared to todays cheap tacky TV.

  • This clip os a fitting tribute to Edward Woodward, who has died aged 79. He'll be sorely missed!

  • @DeafFret Makes perfect sense, and you're absolutely right.

  • Brilliant stuff. Callan operates in much the same world as James Bond, but it's sure a different side of the street !

  • The whole series is great. I don't think there is one single episode that is not worth watching. Ed Woodward at some of his best. Russel Hunter as Lonely is just perfect casting. If you want QUALITY here you go.

  • What do you mean "dreadful production"? The outside shots were of the highest quality, even by today's standards.

  • Fabulous actor Ewar Woowar could do anything. This scene shows quiet despair better than anything I have ever seen. RIP Mr Callan

  • Terrific clip.

  • Couldn't agree with you more. I was looking for The Wicker Man to pay my tribute to this fine actor, while his performance in that film is excellent, I'd like to pay tribute to his entire career on the small screen as well as the big screen. I was too young to catch this iconic British show, but know it's still highly regarded television. Wonderful clip & wonderful actor never to be forgotten.
