My Getaway (Original)

Hi everyone! Here's a new original for you. While elements of it are autobiographical, it is not really written for anyone in particular. But I bet we've all been in situations like this. Hope it does something for you.

"MY GETAWAY"

VERSE 1:
I'm confused now honey, help me get it straight,
You said your girlfriends kept you out this late.
They had a situation only you could fix,
I got a real bad feeling 'bout their bag of tricks.

VERSE 2:
It's the same old story, like a haunting dream,
You come home drunker than a football team.
But it's the end-game baby, and its down to this,
I need a month-long session with my therapist.

CHORUS 1:
Because we're fighting, fighting, can't we stop?
Are you dealing me, dealing me off the top?
You're a pretty buttercup ah but I think you set me up for a fall.

I don't know, don't know what you want,
Is it me? Is it him? Should I be here or gone?
And while you're thinking what to say I'm gonna' make my get-away from it all.

VERSE 3:
I know an old palm reader and she read my hand,
She made a twisted face, said "Boy, now understand,
I see a big storm brewing underneath the shine,
The water's rising fast, there goes your plimsoll line".

VERSE 4:
I'd rather box with Ali, get a busted lip,
Than be the captain on this sinking ship.
We hit an iceburg bigger than an asteroid,
And that's the one thing girl I wanted to avoid.

CHORUS 2:
I can feel, I can feel what my hands can touch,
I believe, I believe maybe a bit too much.
But there's a limit and beyond it there ain't nothing but the slam of a door.

I'm in love, I'm in love, but it hurts to be,
Too damn in love with a girl who ain't in love for me.
It doesn't matter what you say because I just ain't gonna' take anymore.
