Hello Lewin! Is there a particular reason why you have panned the mics 9 and 3 O'clock or was that just your personal preference? The reason I ask, is because I was under the impression that broad spectrum instruments such as the piano and sectional strings should be panned hard left and right....your thoughts? BTW...excellent channel!!

There is NO set rules of panning. People develop methods for their mixes, so suggestions are made. But there are no rules! Do what sounds good, that's my advice.
And to answer your question, I panned them where I thought they sounded good!

Why don't you use pro tools or something similar? I don't know of many professionals sound engineers/producers around my neck of the woods that take Garage Band uses seriously/use it themselves

Because it does everything I need it too, sounds great and it's easy to get it there. It serves my purposes 100%

Lewin, don't argue with Jack asses trying to correct you. Obviously you know what you're talking about.

Yes, but it is considered a percussion instrument, which is the point I was trying to make when talking about the "hammer sound" being an important sound.

this is one of the best sounding upright recording on youtube. What is your thought of using 1 omni large diaphragm + 1 directional small diaphragm
vs 2 directional small diaphragm?
i already have an AKG 120 was going to get a pair of Behringer C2 instead. now I am thinking maybe I should just get another AKG 170 and use your techique. What do you suggest?
