Bongsan Talchum Basic Motions 봉산탈춤 기본 동작

There are more than just a few videos of students learning or performing "Korean mask dancing" on the web, and most of those students seem to have been taught by teachers who have no business teaching. This video is different. The mask dance is specific, it's Bongsan Talchum, one of Korea's best known (and loved) mask dance dramas. It is being taught here by the primary teacher to people who are not performing members of the Bongsan Talchum preservation association (and in fact some students begin in this class and move into professional performing later). This teacher has been performing and teaching as her primary (only) job for over twenty years, and she's extremely talented. The students in the foreground are talented, one has just been accepted to arts university as a mask dance major, the other will apply next year. The motions they are reviewing are the basic motions, where any student (with a competent teacher) would begin learning this mask dance drama. It is my hope that Korean clubs outside Korea, or even inside Korea will turn to this video as a teaching aide.
