Peter Russell - What is Consciousness? - Pt 1/6

Peter Russell is a fellow of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, of The World Business Academy and of The Findhorn Foundation, and an Honorary Member of The Club of Budapest.

At Cambridge University (UK), he studied mathematics and theoretical physics. Then, as he became increasingly fascinated by the mysteries of the human mind he changed to experimental psychology. Pursuing this interest, he traveled to India to study meditation and eastern philosophy, and on his return took up the first research post ever offered in Britain on the psychology of meditation.

His principal interest is the deeper, spiritual significance of the times we are passing through. He has written several books in this area -- The TM Technique, The Upanishads, The Brain Book, The Global Brain Awakens, The Creative Manager, The Consciousness Revolution, Waking Up in Time, and From Science to God.

As one of the more revolutionary futurists Peter Russell has been a keynote speaker at many international conferences, in Europe, Japan and the USA. His multi-image shows and videos, The Global Brain and The White Hole in Time have won praise and prizes from around the world. In 1993 the environmental magazine Buzzworm voted Peter Russell "Eco-Philosopher Extraordinaire" of the year.

consciosness is eternal because, if u die i think ur conscios pro-exists and that wat retarded people call ghost or pvp is just some echo of consciosness in all the places u have being. u leave memories of those places and when u die those memories unit into one thing or free conscios maybe

There are many examples of consciousness existing apparently in the absence of brain activity. Some examples would be near death experiences in which the experiencer witnessed events that occurred during the period of no brain activity.

@JohnMatrix89 Some pointers. Matter, time and space are just concepts of the mind or EGO. When you are in deep sleep do you see them? Of course not because there is no EGO but something exists. In that state all there is, is impersonal non conceptual awarness. This is impossible to understand because to explain something we need concepts. @acuaman42 Of course that is assuming that time and space do not arise from consciousness. That I believe is what Peter Russell is saying, that consciousness is the ultimate reality. Matter, time, and space are just objects. Consciousness is eternal.

Pure consciousness is not an experience because there is no one experiencing anything. In nonduality is called impersonal non conceptual awarness like the one a baby has. It is impossible to describe because a description needs concepts and in pure consciousness there are no concepts, no time and no space.
