This is the trio of Mazen, Raed and Charbel performing live at the Goethe-Institute in Beirut, Lebanon-January, 2006. Mazen runs the Al-Maslakh record label out of Beirut which is home to the growing experimental/new music scene there. Visit www.almaslakh.org. Also visit the blogs of Mazen and Raed:

Right now, these guys are all still alive in Beirut- while their country is being brutally decimated by Israel and the U.S.
This piece was performed as a homage to Samir Kassir, a journalist friend who was assassinated by a deadly car bombing on july 2nd 2005. The piece features recordings of his voice and sounds from the million-person anti-Syrian occupation demonstration in Beirut's center last april (2005).
Note: This is an updated version of the clip. Previously I had mistaken Charbel Haber for Sherif Sehnoui (another great Lebanese musician who collaborates with these guys). This is the corrected clip. Pass it on....
but it is only nice this way.
Ya Beirut.
You've created a piece of art. Giant work.
Keep it on.

thank you Porest for documenting this and posting it up. Many people mourn for Samir Kassir. Lebanon is brave and beautiful and know how to be patient through suffering-their will is strong!
