Over the last 60 years, India's commercial film industry, colloquially known as Bollywood, has developed distinctive conventions for filming dance. These strategies include quick edits on off beats, unexpected frame entrances and exits, chronological distortions, location shifts and close ups of eyes and gestures to stress dance rhythm and melody.

Inspired by these conventions, this film explores the intersections of Indian classical dance, contemporary dance and film through "Alarippu", a rhythmic composition from the Bharat Natyam repertoire.

  • very interesting

  • There are some really exciting moments in this experiment. It feels like a jamming session betweeen the nattuvangam, camera, the 2 dancers and the cityscape.

  • u guys r being mean, they are doing th correct alarippu with other things mixed in so it's not thisram anymore but thats why the title is "Alarippu Gone ASTRAY"!

  • This is kind of like bharatnatayam and regular dancing fusion because of the arms getting loose in the beggining but otherwise it was awesome

  • Very bad. An insult to Bharata Natyam. Please somebody ask her not to perfom such an insulting item of her own invention.

  • 0/5...

    thank you for sharing.

  • why are they destroying the alarippu! Alarippu is meant to build not only a sense of the tisram rhythm but also the technical skill and grace!

  • Oh and the palms of the hands NEVER point OUTWARDS in Alarippu!!!

  • They're good but just trying to be clever.
