get him/her a nice big cage. Syrian hamsters are the best i think. i've only had syrians but i'm on my 4th one. only had him for about 3 weeks. but yeh, get them a big cage. i've got the savic hamster heaven. it's not cheap but if you want your hamster to have a good life =]

Okay first of all, as a general rule, the bigger a hamster is the more friendly it will be to you. Robo hamsters and dwarf hamsters are more look-don't-touch-animals. The long haired ones you were looking at on the other hand wouldn't mind to be held. I, personally, would get a guinea pig though. They need bigger cages but they are very social and interactive.

i dunno what your coin is like but if youre like me and can blow a few, you should make a giant hamster course, like 5ft tall and 3 ft wide with tubes all over XD dont forget a wheel and nibble water, plus all that loose crap for flooring :)
