Cincinnati, OH, December 2009: Available for immediate purchase; nationally distributed through Amazon.com. Miraculous tale of how a boy, born into unimaginable physical and emotional pain and destined to be a misfit, finds his way in a world of others. Few could survive so many torturous years of surgical intervention and a ensuing lifelong struggle with drugs and alcohol addiction and come out ahead. This moving tale reveals not only the struggle and heartrending elements of generational lives gone wrong, but also the love and growth of a human being overcoming the odds and determined to find a way to live life to the fullest. Based on a true story, the authors unapologetic prose prompts enduring ethical questions and makes a gripping, personal read.

This newly edited release of Norma Jean's Sun will certainly exceed expectations. The story is not only convincingly true, but will rivet the reader with its genuine and unassuming pathos. Norma Jean's Sun is painfully reflective yet ultimately hopeful, a story told through the eyes of a boy who believes he has been mistakenly born into the world and a man who conquers physical and emotional injustice--and thrives. The reader will be challenged to answer the difficult questions of right and wrong as they may apply to his or her own life. It is clear that it is the hope of this author that the reader's conclusions will lead to a more fulfilled view of the "parallel beauty that lives just beneath the surface for us all."

An artist in spirit and gift, Kris Courtney has lived much of his life in the Midwest and currently resides and works in Oxford, Ohio. Surrounded by talent and gifted students of life, he is dedicated to service and volunteer work. A percentage of the earnings from Norma Jeans Sun book will go to research for Parkinsons disease and colon cancer in recognition of the illnesses that attacked his grandmother Flossie and his mother, Norma Jean.

Back in 1928 when a small town of Indiana collected its folks every year for a celebration at the local Fair, a gathering of strangers would join together to shape a new parallel of lives. This year was no different. Brought together by tragedy, two cousins would later embark on forbidden love to form a family of tales that drifted in all directions. Emerging from this tangled brood would be a soul that reached for greater heights, her name was Norma Jean. Chased as teenager girls are, Norma became the affection of a lad who watched from the other side of the tracks into a world he did not understand.

As an artist and author, the content of this Memoir is filled with a range of color descriptions that follow the life of my family through times of prosperity and despair. Norma, my mother, is determined to fill her life with energy and hope for a better tomorrow through the struggles associated with growing up. Her love, compassion and embracing smile captures the spotlight of all who witness. Inside this Novel, you will ask yourself a host of questions that are difficult to understand. It is the hope of this author, your view allows your own life to gain a deeper understanding.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Despair and hope, June 1, 2011

This review is from: Norma Jean's Sun: True Story (Paperback)

I have read this book twice now, as I frequently do with stories that move me. The first time I was so overcome with the depth of despair and the self destructive behavior of the writer, that I didn't fully grasp the depth of the love he was shown by some of his family members and the ultimate enlightenment he experienced.
