Watch a lesson taught by Tim Bedley, veteran of 20 years in the elementary school classroom, as he leads his students to come up with their own solution to an issue that has arisen in the first week of school.
Captions highlight Tim's infusion of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP's) throughout the video, making this the perfect tool for training new teachers.
This is part 2 of 3.

  • What grade level is this, Tim?

  • @21283faith 4th and 5th grade combo class.

  • Chris, your classroom is so organized and well managed. What are some things that you suggest to 1st and 2nd year teachers to develope this type of environment for their students?

  • This isn't Chris's classroom...it's me, Tim. ; ) Quick tips? Establish clear behavior expectations and reward students who cooperate, penalize those who don't. Do this consistently and with respect. Plan your lessons so the kids do more talking than you do with a lot of pair share and small group discussions. Monitor student follow through and expect 100% participation. You are looking at 20 years of practice, so it's not a simple answer. I hope this helps a little.
