Guatemala's 'Day of the Dead' celebration took to the air when Mayan Indians recalled an ancient tradition of flying enormous kites to communicate with their departed loved ones.
Each year, Guatemalans observe numerous traditions to commemorate the dead. But in addition to the usual graveside observances, Guatemalans have another, infinitely more colourful tradition that involves flying enormous kites over the graves in an attempt to communicate with the dead. This Mayan tradition began in ancient times is still followed. The kites are constructed out of bamboo, cloth, paper and wire. These days, kite-fliers also use more modern materials.

Thats so freakin coo!! It may sound corny but I don't know how else to say it; I got (warm fuzzy?) feelings when I watched this video b/c I sense how proud these people are in their traditions, history and culture. I wanted to be there. It would be the neatest thing to have a small original kite just as a token of one of the celebrations of Guatemala. What a beautiful place and a beautiful people. I'm a lover in the diversity in people.

The kites look beautiful. It is good to see everyone happy, instead of all of the bad stuff happening down there, now.
