Michigan State Senator Hansen Clarke (D-Detroit) responds to the Governor's 2008 State of the State address:
"Families in Detroit and across Michigan face many of the same challenges-from mortgage foreclosures to unaffordable education-and I was pleased to hear Governor Granholm is taking aim at many of the struggles facing residents in my district and beyond. Her plans to appoint an advocate to fight for insurance customers and ban predatory lending practices will provide much needed support and relief for the lower-income residents who most often end up in the crosshairs of these industries. I also echo the Governor's call for legislative action to help homeowners struggling to meet their mortgage payments and stave off foreclosure to get loans at lower rates, as I have been advocating for drastic measures to address the state's foreclosure crisis since it began."
