THE MERCURY BRAND WILL SOON BE NO MORE BUT HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A MERCURY FROM THE POST-WAR GLORY DAYS OF AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN. MERCURY EXECS CALLED THESE MERCURYS THE "PEACH CROP" BECAUSE OF THE PRIDE AND POPULARITY OF THEIR PRODUCT. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A '46 AND '47 WERE A CHROME UPPER GRILL FRAME, NEW MERCURY HOOD BADGE, SHORTER SIDE TRIM, REVISED HUBCAPS, BUMPER TIP GUARDS AND DECKLID MOLDING. INTERIOR UPHOSTERY WAS A CHOICE BETWEEN RED OR TAN LEATHER. CONVERTIBLES NUMBERED 10,221 THIS YEAR AND COST $2,002. THE ONLY ENGINE OFFERED WAS A 239CID V8 WITH 100 HP FOR A 3,368 POUND RAG TOP. THE WHEELBASE IS 118 INCHES. SOON IT WILL BE GOODBYE FOR ANOTHER AMERICAN BRAND NAME, A BRAND CREATED BY HENRY FORD'S SON EDSEL IN 1939. VIEWING THIS " PEACH ", SAVOR THE PIZZAZZ THAT MERCURY CAUSED IN THE FORTIES. Another restored car brought to you by 55lincoln. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR VIEWING.
@save16thave Oh, this Merc has so much pizzazz. Love it. And I hated to see how Mercury ended but Ford always had Mercs look similiar and used the same parts, etc. Too bad they couldn't differentiate Mercs more. Memories will always be there and you had quite a variety of Mercs. Thanks for enjoying this Mercury convertible.

The steering wheel alone has ten times the style of any new car. I have a '66 Mercury Comet and my first car was a '79 Mercury Cougar. I'm a Merc Man for sure! Mercury deserved a better end than what Ford gave her, but they can't kill our memories.

@193322009 Thats the great thing about cars you use to have. Years later you still have those memories. I bet your Merc looked outstanding. I can picture it in my mind. You were a lucky young man to have something like this. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

Thanks for posting this beauty. I had the same car many, many years
ago when I was in Hayward high school in California.
It was voted as second nicest car at the school.
I had it painted Cadillac metallic green.
Very sweet cars!

@historybuffish I hated to see Plymouth, DeSoto, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Hudson, Studebaker, Packard, and Nash to go also.
But this is a great style for Mercury and glad you enjoyed.

I hate to see Mercury go, but the brand was neglected just like Plymouth, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac. Great looking ragtop. I love those plastic grilles on the dash.
