This 10 minute video is edited from a 75nm cross-country I made on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from Norwood, MA to Sanford, ME. I was flying to Sanford (SFM) to visit Jack Hodgson, host of the Uncontrolled Airspace Podcast at his home airport and I had a beautiful day for flying, especially for January in New England. I used flight following for this trip and as you'll hear, I was cleared into Boston's Class Bravo Airspace, direct to Sanford which for me was a solo first! Norwood's position on the southwest side of the Boston bravo has meant that I've mostly flown west and south. Northwest requires some special planning and communications, which is what I was looking for from this trip. The first half of the video is the departure from Norwood (OWD) and the series of ATC hand-offs through the Bravo and up the coast to Maine. I made good time, even with a bit of a headwind. (The return trip I was quite fast.) The last half of the video is the approach and landing at Sanford in more detail. There was a lot to enjoy and learn from this trip and for those of you interested in ATC audio, this one will be particularly interesting. The only thing missing from the sequence is my over-flight of Sanford to get a sense of the airport and let some of the pancake breakfast traffic land ahead of me. I should also mention that the ATC audio during the middle portion of the video has a little more static than I would like, but you can hear what's going on and I have tried to minimize the static as much as possible. Again, this is a three-camera HD video with ATC audio. I will probably also post just the landing for those of you interested in landing video only. Enjoy!

  • @javio45 Thanks for the nice comment, but I am still doing a lot of learning as a pilot. I will keep making videos, but probably not posting a new one for a few weeks. Thanks for writing.

  • how can a cirrus go from about boston to california??

  • @pilotman322 Not sure what you mean about Boston to California. Sorry if I'm not getting something obvious.

  • Great video, the visibility looks great from inside a Cirrus!

  • @pdutube The visibility really is great. And the wings seem to reflect a lot of light into the cabin.

He was flying from KOWD to KSFM (Sanford Regional Airport

Sanford, Maine, USA) not KSMF (Sacramento International Airport

Sacramento, California, USA)... You just got the F and M mixed up.

  • @rdfelty Yes it did. Thanks for the answer!

  • @namfl Well there aren't any controllers at untowered fields like Sanford. The woman's voice you here on this video is manning the UNICOM frequency. So you can get airport information from her but no flying control. They are usually just in an office in the FBO building. Did that answer your question?

  • Where are the controllers at Stanford or at any small airport located, as they usually dont have control towers?
