It was when I understood that the natural disasters early mankind thought were the acts of a vengeful god, were actually natural geological happenings that could easily be explained without a "being" pulling the strings, I started to question the rest of it, and "BAM" another atheist was born. I am going through some hard times these days, but I am happier to have my eyes open, and know that these times will pass and it is up to me to work through it.

@shootomatic Also, atheist don't need to disprove anything because you are the ones making the claims (extraordinary claims, nonetheless), without a shred of proof. I know it takes 'faith' to believe in your god, but I'd much rather know the truth and not live my life on my knees, worshiping a being that, even if he existed, would not be worth a second of my time.

This 'new atheist movement' has only really been vocal for the last 5-6 years and already religious people are losing their shit. How about 2000 years of oppression, genocide and cruelty in name of your god and other gods?!

Your religion is barbaric at best and if you want to adhere to its doctrines, be my guest. Just do it at home or in your church, but...

@TurnIntoGhosts the problem with you is that you dont believe in God, and we cant prove it to you for reasons also explained by God (faith) but you persecute us for that, yet you cannot disprove God by any stretch thus your are doing the very same thing. Problem for you is that the reasons for your confusion and dis trust is explained, accompanied by a stern warning.

There is not a single atheist I know who doesn't believe what they cannot see. We know bacteria, viruses, gravity and so on exist and those are all invisible and intangible to us. It took scientific research and critical thinking to find out about those things, not a simple belief and acceptance that "god did it," because -that- is the non-answer to everything.
