This is a clip of Seal Encounters from my self produced research documentary on the habits of Dungeness crabs (Cancer magister) in the B.C. waters. It takes place during the setting of a crab trap fishing device. ©CPS/Jamie Smith 2007 www.coastphotostudio.com

  • That's insane. I never though of seals going after the actual bait and not the crab. I was wondering why the crab were escaping w/o getting ripped to pieces by the seals, but I guess the seal sucking on the bait container at the end showed the true reason. Nice video! What did you use for a camera?

  • COLE SLAW. NOT COLD SLAW

  • is that a seal that keeps coming back to the net?

  • Should make the trap out of barbed wire .That would keep the suckers out.Maybe out of razor wire. One bite and their face would be cold slaw heheh

  • from what country are u from my friend? back home in the philippines they know how to culture crabs in saltwater.google jerry geronimo's "ating alamin" its about farming.i hope u get some infos there.

  • does anyone know how to farm raise crab? Is there research being done at university?
