  • i love his book- down these mean streets. great author

  • Piri thank you for "DOWN THESE MEAN STREETS" For keeping it real. For having 'Heart'. You taught me to stand back and look at the rejected, the different colors of our people - our neigborhoods - as something beautiful to hold as mine. I still take care of that gift and I will always hold it close to my heart. Thank you. China

  • I wish I had a chance to see this man perform live. Piri Thomas, a poetic genius.

  • Piri you are a true inspiration! DOWN THESE MEAN STREETS touched me deeply; growing up in Harlem you had to have heart! I deeply mourn your passing may God hold you in his hands and I thank you so much!

They say that, "YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU GOT TILL YOU DON'T HAVE IT NO MORE" Well you have left us but, Your Not Forgotten! I still remember the frist time I had you book in my Hands. How I felt reading it and finding myself in your words! On my rooftop in Washing Hights at, 586 W. 178st Between St NICHOLAS AVE & AMSTERDAM AVE. June1973. I'm 53 today and you still have heart! Part of you will always be inside me. IF YOU AIN'T GOT HEART YOU AINT GOT NADA.Ricky Vega

  • This man lived a crazy life. His his book "Down these mean street" is the bible for all us PuertoRicans that grew up in NYC.

  • I read his book in my mid teens purely by accident, I don't know what compelled me to pick up the book in a public library and his story of growing up in the 40s and 50s in the Bronx was fascinating and intriguing.

  • i love piri's work and books and in 2009 itz still da sam struggle for our ppl and i will make sure my children have the knowlege of workz from these beautiful latino word composers ...a true latin king
