That tap sounded horrible...

this is a demo though mate, on a real job yes you do need a lubricant, but it would obscure the view

@gredangeo Its not a usable thread, just a show peace.

I'm thinking the part-prog was prepared by a cad/cam package. A human probably wouldn't do the ops in all thr wrong order so that the bar stock is in and out of the guide bush/collet dragging in all that swarf mucking up concentricity tolerances and, eventually, jamming up...

@floydy22...agreed i keep seeing these videos and want to know just how rigid it would be on 321 stainless or some hast-x or perhaps some incolnel 718?
-
How long would parts like this have taken before CNC ?
-
Now thats precision but i'd like to see it turn Hastelloy or something. Or hardened steel like IN/A
-
That is an absolutely awesome piece of machinery!

@CubicMachinery hes saying whats the point of threads that you cant use, but i understand this is just demonstrating what it could do

this is demo;I want to see this same thing in steel with cooling. What kind of control is this?
-
Very nice, but I would like to see this part made in steel. How bout 4140 or something. Even little hobby machines turn brass easily.
%that's really cool, but how the hell can you use that thread when both ends are blocked by those outer diameters?!%

The threading tool is lifted between outer diameters and threads between them. The tool is never blocked.
