Earl Strickland kept America's Mosconi Cup hopes alive but his victory was overshadowed by a bust-up with opponent Daryl Peach, who later branded The Pearl as 'scum of the earth'.

Towards the end of the match, Strickland was involved in a huge argument with World Champion Peach that threatened to become nasty.

Strickland, who had been talking constantly throughout the match, called Peach 'a cheat' after he believed the Englishman had sharked him, although referee Michaela Tabb later confirmed that it had actually been someone behind Peach and not the player himself.

Peach reacted to this insult and threatened Strickland as the two men went head-to-head, apparently close to coming to blows.

Tabb intervened and warned both players about their conduct, although the pair did shake hands at the end of the contest, a 6-3 victory to Strickland.

However, the controversy was not over yet as Strickland stormed off before being interviewed while a heated Peach heavily criticised his opponent live on television.

"Strickland is scum of the earth," raged a furious Peach.

"It's a shame as he is a great player but it shows what he has to do to win.

"I'm a sportsman, I sit in my chair and keep quiet, all of the other Europeans do and all of the rest of the American team do.

"But he is waving his arms around and speaking to the crowd - he is not a sportsman.

"He is probably one of the best players in the world but he just mars his performance with this.

"When I first started playing pool, he was one of my heroes but he has gone down in my books a lot. He mars his performance by, shall we say, being a character."

It was a bad start for Peach as he produced a dry break and left a 1-9 combination on, which Strickland, with his first shot of the match, made.

The match was tied up at 1-1 when he scratched attempting to play safe but the Englishman then won the next to regain the lead.

With no shot on the 1-ball off the break, Strickland opted to push out and a safety battle ensued before a Peach error made it 2-2.

Both players shared one of the next two racks but a table length bank on the 7-ball helped Strickland move ahead with a lead that he was to not let go again.

Strickland won the next two to keep the contest alive.

  • @sooperfukker This isn't the only time Earl has done stuff like this. Every time he loses a match, he takes it badly. Take him losing to Ralf Souquet a few years back. When Ralf offered to shake his hand after the match he gripped the hand so tight that ralf had to pull it loose as Strickland stared menacingly back. He lost against Efren Reyes and winged on camera about how lucky his opponent was. What makes him the "scum of the earth" however is that he shouts abuse during the match, not after.

  • @SimpVeggie Nope, I judge people by their character.

Earl has some annoying antics everyone knows about, but that's it. He doesn't go around, pass judgement on people, smear on them, demonising them.

For calling someone "scum of the earth" you need the very best of justification to do so and obviously, Mr. Peach just had a butt-hurt ego and wanted to trash him. That is witness to a malevolent and revengeful character.

If someone in that room is scum, then it is Mr. Peach.

  • @sooperfukker If you'd seen the way Earl had behaved, you'd realize he was right. Him being less well known does not change how right he is. Perhaps in your celebrity-worshipping American culture you think otherwise, but here in the rest of the world we judge people by their merits, not their reputation.

  • lol at the end, "Ralf the Souquet Kaiser" hahaha

  • Nip slip on Michaela 2:12...ye right =D

  • How DARE this nobody call someone else "scum of the earth" on TV?

Makes me think he's the same type of chav like his "fans" are #FAIL

  • peach sucks!! he certainly isn't even close in earl's league.
