@MiddnightDreams acutally the mane is for balance not 'steering' you use your body to tell the horse where to go. really if you've never ridden or only ridden a little bit (only assuming since you mentioned 'steering' instead of directing the horse) it would be best to get lessons in natural horsemanship. otherwise,no offense, you'll get a face full of dirt, trust me i tried to jump the gun so to speak when i got my horse and tasted grass for a week lol. in other words i fell off then i learned

He has bad bareback legs but he makes up for it with the communication he has with that horse. Wow.

@Tiffytufo yeah! I think it's because our legs snug on their sides better than on the saddle.

really you steer with your body...by leaning your waight on diferent pressure points of there back!! but the mane helps stay on lol

wow can u actually steer the horse with its mane!!!??? when i get a horse im probably going to do more bareback riding that with all the equipment!
