  • Thanks AboriginalSoul. You're right, and we did change the date in the film, but this teaser was already cut. The film is all Coast Salish cast - Ta'kaiya Blaney is a performer, who at the age of 8, is already writing her own music and performing at many events.

Inez Jasper, our 'mom' is also an amazing singer and you can vote for her as part of the Aboriginal People's Choice Awards.

There is also a follow up book by Nicola Campbell "Shinchi's Canoe".

    Thank you for your support!

    Megwetch!

  • can't wait to see this. beautiful work.

  • going to be a great film.....you can just feel it.

way to go kate and team!!

  • There are different times that residential schools have closed and for many they remain open in their hearts today. I doubt if the memory or hurt that was caused by the residential schools will ever be fully healed...the scars and lasting effects will be around Indian country for many more gnerations to come. This film brought back feelings of what is was like to say goodbye to my family as I went off to residential school. O'Siam...

  • The last federally funded Indian Residential School closed its doors in 2006, but the full scope of what happened inside those schools is still a long way from being understood.

For more than 100 years, the Canadian Government funded and administered the residential school system. Its founding mission was to provide institutionalized education and care to Indian children, with the goal of assimilatiion.

  • it says there that the last residential school closed in the 80s but that isnt totally true the last one closed in 1996

  • This is a wonderful film, story, and children's book...the film looks wonderful. All combined pluse the little girl is powerfully provocative and compelling. Great job. .

  • I can't wait to see the movie!
