I agree about Brad Pitt's subtle performance. I love Cate Blanchett a lot but her performance didn't stand out to me here like it has done in other films. Maybe I didn't connect with the character enough...until the end. I loved the scenes towards the end.
I don't understand the Forrest Gump comparison personally... If it wasn't Eric Roth(?) who wrote the script, then none of it would've been brought up. Slumdog Millionaire for example is a rehash of movies that were told billionth times since the birth of movies. Every film is a rehash. Finding true love; lifespan; yadayada; there were movies (so many of them) before like that. The story of Forrest Gump isn't original at all, and yes, same goes to Curious Case. It's truly all in the excution.
I liked this film but I too got a little bored through the middle section. I liked the way it looked mostly, spesh the out at sea parts =) ... and I enjoyed Cate Blanchett's performance. She's a great actress. The ending made me cry ... which always scores points for any film =) Generally I agree with what you said in your review.
"Benjamin, we're meant to lose the people we love. How else would we know how important they are to us?" ...
