This is Joan Crawford we're talking about.. that wasn't water, it was 100 proof vodka.

Yeah, that poor, misunderstood child torturer and abuser.

    What a victim.

This is by far Faye's best work. I don't know why this film has received negative reviews.

Joan Crawford was never the monster Christina made her out to be. Yes, she was vain and self-centered. However, she genuinely cared for both Christina and Christopher. She didn't want them to become like her and wanted them to work forwhat they wanted.

I think it's her best work as well. It's a crime that her career floundered. She is just brilliant.

The spankings are probably the most believable part of the book. I'm not talking about those. I'm talking about the more bizarre things - her mother's homosexual encounters with assistants, maids and the like, random drunken fits of rage, the cruel and vengeful way the girl claims to have been treated. Look what she's done since the book was released? Nothing has changed. I just see a big and sad yellow belly crybaby who realizes she has no skill or talent for anything other than this.

Joan Crawford was a goddess, a goddamned force of nature.

Christina is a jealous, bitter, no-talent bitch that wrote a book full of lies so she could cash in on her famous mother. And it did a lot of damage to Joan Crawford's legacy.

But the truth is gradually resurfacing, and to anyone who loves films, or Hollywood, or glamour- anybody who understands what an honest-to-god MOVIE STAR actually looked like- Joan Crawford's memory is eternal.

It's an injustice that Faye was not given the praise she deserved for this role. She created an iconic character and intensly gave ever bit of herself in the process. It really shows when watching this film. No young actress or starlet working today has the class, the regality, the presence, or the capabilities that she had. In this role (as well as Network and all the others) she is riveting and you cannot take your eyes off of her.

A product of the mother who raised her , she didn't just turn out that way

Really though, yes, Joan WAS unstable. But Christina wasn't the "perfect innocent" daughter. I'm not siding with Joan at all, but Tina was in the wrong too. She was disobedient and spoiled.
