Yup. My bad. Rashly assumed that USAAF's extreme fondness of turbocharging would carry over to RR design. Not.
Still, low exhaust sound level from both Merlin and Allison at low elevations is surprising, given blower boost and very low compression-ratio.

Merlin was only one of the greatest sounds in history unless you were a german in world war 2 then the only sound you heard was death knocking at your door

Turbocharger on many series of P-51. Resulting
in that deep purr. Like a cat you want to keep your distance from.
Best of the best of WWII for performance & endurance. Besides, beautiful little bird.

You serious? Merlin is one of the greatest sounds in history.

Doesnt matter what airframe the merlin is in, it is the best sound ever created by man!!!
