the little dish fitter is a cage fighter and he is part man part monkey. I have been told his real father is named Gor and he was brought up in the forests and jungles of Rochdale. He gained enourmous strength thus perfecting his triangle chokes by dangling for hours on end by his legs from Sycamore tees.

so "graft" means "hard work", and a grafter is the average worker (plumber, butcher, etc)
