Farewell Blues recorded by the Castle Jazz Band in 1949. The Castle Jazz Club was in Gladstone (Happy Rock) Oregon just south of Portland, and a lot of good jazz came from there. It was a small club built to look like an old stone castle and was abandoned and finally torn down a few years ago. Too bad. Enjoy!

  • Wow...so happy to see this. I live not far from the site of the old Castle Inn--building sat vacant for years, was demolished 4-5 yrs ago and site is now occupied by housing. My father had an album of Castle Jazz Band--cover was a cartoon by the great Arnold Roth of a medieval joust. About 30 jokes in that cartoon. George Bruns went to work for Disney at some point. I grew with that album...no idea where it is now--I wish I could find it. Thanks Monte and the boys.

I lived in Gladstone in the early 1970s and was always intrigued by the 'Castle' but knew nothing about it. It was always on my list of places to show out of town visitiors, like the elevator in Oregon City. Didn't know it's history until about 10 years ago, by that time it was a ruin. Too bad I couldn't have appreciated it for what it was a lot sooner. I really like the Castle Jazz Band music was blown away when I finally made the connection between the 'Castle' and the records.

  • WISH WE KNEW WHO THE MUSICIANS ARE.

  • Do- you- have- sweet- georgia- brown- by- this- same- band?

  • In 1960, my father bought a stereo Knight Kit in which you built your own stereo. After several months, it was finished and I bought my first album--The Famous Castle Jazz Band 'In Stereo'. I wore out 'The Torch' and 'I've Been Floating Down the Old Green River.' I was so delighted when Good Time Jazz brought it out on CD. I loved the cartoon Medieval Cover and the guy with the trash can on wheels picking up pieces of knight's armor.
