One of my favorite bands from growing up in Stl. aaahhhhh memories...

The band Colony first formed in 1994 when songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Ted Bruner and drummer Matt Hickenbotham (who formed their first band together in 1989) moved to Columbia, MO and teamed with guitarist Jon Armstrong and bassist John Stuller. 'Go', a four song independent disk and their first recording was released on Music Masters, a local independent label. It gained widespread airplay throughout the Midwest. This local hype led to a regional tour where they were noticed by MCA Records.

By October of 1996 Colony signed a two-album recording contract with MCA. On September 9, 1998, Colony released their debut album, Siren, produced by Ben Mink (k.d. lang, Barenaked Ladies), nationally. In 1999 MCA Records merged with Universal and Colony was consequently dropped by MCA Records. Colony then went on to replace bassist John Stuller with long time friend Andy Conrad.

In 2000 Colony signed to the Independent record label Beyond Music (Go Go's, Motley Crue, Blondie, Better Than Ezra, Veruca Salt, and Sammy Hagar). Colony's sophomore effort 'Who I Wanted to Be', co-produced by Toby Miller (Korn) and Bill Applebury (Citizen King and Candlebox), was released nationally on September 25, 2001. Before the release of their second album, Colony's song 'Happy' was featured on the movie 'Rat Race' soundtrack and was selected to represent the soundtrack as the single. In 2001, Colony received the honor of 'Best New Artist' at the St. Louis music awards, the SLAMMIES.

Colony broke up in 2002.

  • I heard the record label they were with went bankrupt. And i guess after that they fell apart. But I loved this band. I really wish they'd made it ...
