They really had a challenge with season 4 after getting rid of Ianto, Tosh, and Owen.. They succeeded and made season 5, (if the director decides to make a season 5), have loads of potential..

I loved the character of Ianto, I really did. But I wouldn't for one minute want him back, as it would cheapen this entire scene and the repercussions of it. As much as you can hate a character's death, you have to love it when it's handled correctly, and this certainly was.
